For decades, news from the Middle East was mostly about conflicts. Dubai changed part of that story. By betting on trade, tourism and openness, the city became a place where the whole world meets.

A meeting point for the world

Film stars, sports champions, business leaders and families on holiday: all of them come to Dubai. Famous moments have made headlines around the world, like a friendly tennis match played on the helipad of the Burj Al Arab, high above the sea, or golf balls struck from that same platform. Each of these moments carried an image of the city far beyond the region.

A race for the best welcome

This attention created strong competition among hotels. Many invested in unique places to stay, aimed at business travellers and demanding visitors from every continent. Other destinations in the region compete too, but Dubai took an early lead.

Openness as a strategy

Dubai opened its doors to the world, and the world answered. Foreign residents play a key role in its economy and strengthen the links between the Arabian Peninsula and the rest of the world. It is an example of how a destination can build its reputation step by step, through welcome, quality and events.
